     Hogan is a Dine' word meaning house, dwelling or living place.  The forked-pole male hogan is a home made out of five logs that cross and hold each other up at the tips.  The female hogan, on the other hand, is round in appearance and uses a different construction technique.  All activities were allowed in the female hogan while only religious functions were permitted in the male hogan.
